It all started in 2005 when we set up Kernow Chocolate to make a range of products of our own to sell in our Cornish food & drink shop ‘Kernow Harvest’ based in Wadebridge (closed in 2012). M.D. Alex and his wife Jayne went into business with daughter Nicola and soon to be husband Andy who had both recently moved back to Cornwall having given up life in the city. The business grew again when son Philip and his partner Vicki returned from working in Australia to join.
We started selling the chocolate alongside fudge made by our close friends Buttermilk Confections at farmers' markets and local food & drink shows. We started picking up shops to supply along the way and production began to increase.
In 2007 we radically changed the branding to be more geared towards the tourist market and at the same time began to offer bespoke branded bar wrappers to sell into local attractions…..we haven’t looked back since.
You can now find our chocolate in independent shops, delis and tourist attractions from as far south as the Scilly Isles to the far north in the Shetland Isles.
We make over 20 traditional and contemporary flavours of our chocolate bars by hand, and are proud to say that all of the chocolate we use is sustainably grown and ethically sourced ensuring a better deal for the cocoa farmers.
We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our 10th anniversary by opening up our brand new factory Kernow Chocolate Head Quarters (KCHQ). Visitors can see all of our chocolate being made through our factory viewing area, learn all about the origins of chocolate and sample many different chocolates made by us. We serve hot and cold drinks as well as light lunches in our café, our entire range of chocolates is available to buy in our shop as well as some hard to find confectionery treats from around the world. We look forward to welcoming you through our doors.
